Spine Surgery - Accra, Ghana
I had Scoliosis in 2005. I went through a lot as a teenager living with scoliosis back then, due to the physical pain I had whiles I was enrolled in a second cycle institution and was in the boarding house as well. I also went through emotional pain due to the stigmatization by some peers in school and some neighbors back home.
I encouraged myself and stood tall with my head up high to pursue my modeling career in 2012 in pride despite all odds. I wanted to become that model with scoliosis to express my pains and passions through my pictures. I finally embraced and decided to live with scoliosis for the rest of my life after not getting any good results trying to find solutions to correct my spine upon all the hospitals I had visited, until I joined the FOCOS family in April 2017 at the point when the curvature of my spine became bigger and the pain became more intensive.
On the day of my first appointment at the hospital, I was told I would have to undergo a surgery for the curvature of my spine to be corrected. At that moment, I asked myself a lot of questions in tears “like how am I going to get money for my medical bills” because my family went bankrupt through the process of seeking medical attention for me. Somehow, I was able to raise some funds on social media but it wasn’t close to half of the money I was supposed to pay to cover all my medical bills. My heart was filled with excitement one morning, when Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, CEO of FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital, told me I had benefited from the funds raised last year. I had tears of joy that day because my hopes of getting my spine corrected was finally going to come through.
I finally had my surgery in June 2017 and I have resumed my modeling career because my story has changed for good. My dream is to live as an inspiration through my modelling career and give hope to the kids who have scoliosis worldwide and also see to it that they get every help they will need for their spines to be corrected in order for them to achieve their dreams. Today, I have bigger hopes of achieving greater things in life due to the great support I got from your contributions to support the vision of FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital which is to save lives and also “Help The World Stand Tall”. I thank God for touching the hearts of all our sponsors and our donors during last year’s Gala for bringing life, hope, and smiles to me with their great support.
I want to take this opportunity to say another big thanks to Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei (The Miracle Doctor) for this great opportunity he gave me and finally to my newly found family, FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital. Thank you
