Exclusive Photos: First Annual FOCOS Fundraising Dinner in Ghana
For over a decade, Foundation of Orthopaedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS) has been giving back life to children who would have otherwise remained stigmatized, isolated and even died from scoliosis across Africa. With the support of philanthropists world over, FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital has fully sponsored and carried out life-saving surgeries on at least 500 children with the selfless leadership of Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, the internationally acclaimed Spine Surgeon.
To continue this worthy cause, FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital launched a campaign to solicit financial support in raising GHS 5 million. This is to support underprivileged children undergo life-changing surgery and also equip a 16-Bed Pediatric Ward with a multi-purpose activity center attached (currently under construction at the hospital).
To what seemed like an almost an unending blissful night, FOCOS Ghana held its first ever fundraising dinner in aid of funding life-changing surgeries for needy paediatric patients. It was a blissful night which hosted H.E. President John Agyekum Kuffuor (Former President of Ghana) as the Guest of Honour, Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Alan Kyerematen, Founder and President of FOCOS, Prof Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, Ambassador Fritz-Poku, Chairman of the Board, Antrak Group Chairman, Alhaji Asuma Banda, Dr Kofi Amoah, and other dignitaries graced the occasion at the plush Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel on Saturday May 13th 2017.
The night begun with a cocktail session where patrons had the opportunity to meet one another and interact and share pleasantries awaiting to be ushered into the ballroom for the main evening’s event, the Fundraiser. The compére for the night Jerry Adjorlolo welcomed guests with a warm introduction, a documentary on the life-changing surgeries performed by Prof and his team of doctors and a prayer from the chaplain, Rev. Lewis.
Dinner was served, speeches delivered by the Guest of Honour, President Kufuor, Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, Dr Rick Hodes, the Medical Director of Ethiopia for the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), Mr Kojo Yankah, the Board Chairman Ambassador Fritz-Poku. Nana Aba Anamoah appealed for funds and served as the Auctioneer for the night. Our kind sponsors and donors were also awarded with Certificates of Appreciation and plaques in recognition of their selfless contribution to a worthy cause to make Children Stand Tall.
One of the highlights of night and the proudest moments was when Prof graduated FOCOS’ first set of Scoliosis/Spine Fellows, Dr Kwadwo Yankey and Dr Harry Akoto. To crown the night, the multiple award-winning musician Bisa K’dei, after being inducted into FOCOS as a Brand Ambassador treated guests to sultry music to climax the night. We are very grateful for all our patrons, donors and organisers for a night which brought hope to many children who may otherwise be unable to STAND TALL.
