IAHCSMM Certifies Two Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) Staff of FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital
The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)
Certifies Two (2) Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) Staff of FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital
As part of the hospital’s effort to promote staff development and enhance quality surgical care, 2 staff
of the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) took part in the International Association of
Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) examination leading to a certification in
Central Sterile processing.
Having successfully passed the IAHCSMM examination, the 2 staff namely Mr. Felix Matey-Yaw and Mr.
Samuel Ankamah become the second and third in Ghana and West Africa to be credentialed as Certified
Registered Central Service Technicians (CRCST). This achievement apart from being a dream come true
for the young CSSD Technicians who have worked so hard in training, also compliments the hospital’s
efforts in seeking Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation in the near future.
IAHCSMM offers the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification, which is
designed to recognize individuals who have demonstrated the experience, knowledge and skills
necessary to provide competent services as a Central Service Technician. The CRCST Certification is
recognized by both the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Commission for
Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
CRCST’s are integral members of the healthcare team who are responsible for decontaminating,
inspecting, assembling, disassembling, packaging, and sterilizing reusable surgical instruments or devices
in a health care facility that are essential for patient safety.
Expressing their excitement for this certificate; Mr. Felix Matey-Yaw, said “I am particularly happy as l
have learnt new things related to my field of work in the surgery department. This training will improve
my work because l have acquired different skills in my line of duty. I am very grateful for this
opportunity from FOCOS hospital and I wish to thank Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei and the management
of the hospital for making this possible.”
Beaming with smiles all over, Mr. Samuel Ankamah also said “I am so excited that l had the unique
opportunity of going through the same standard of training in central processing here in Ghana, as my
colleagues internationally. I have been fully equipped to provide quality service to FOCOS Orthopedic
Hospital”
In an interview with their trainers and clinical preceptors from Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New
York, including Mr. Richard Ortiz, Miss Mina Tieku, Mr. Emmanuel Baiden, and Mr. Justice Boachie, they
all expressed delight in the achievement of CRCST certification by Felix and Samuel and urged them to
continue contributing their quota in making FOCOS hospital the no. 1 destination for Orthopedic and
trauma care in Ghana and West Africa.
Finally, Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, CEO and Founder of FOCOS, used the opportunity to encourage all
staff of FOCOS never to cease improving upon their skills and where necessary, the organization is
willing to facilitate relevant trainings to assist staff in their line of duties.
