Newly crowned National female handball half back and “goal queen”, Regina Jessica Diame has dedicated her awards to Surgeon-In-Chief of FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital, Dr.Joseph Ogyaadu for leading the team that performed a surgery on her, last year.
Ms Regina, who plays the position of full back for the Cantonments Youth and National female team suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear in her right knee, at a training session, an injury which took her out of the game in for 10 months in 2017. After she was referred to FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital, the hospital decided to sponsor her surgery considering her inability to afford it.
Dr. Joseph Ogyaadu together with renowned US Sports Medicine and Arthroplasty (joint replacement) Surgeon from the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and Head Athletic team Physician at Marist College, Dr. Michael Maynard. Dr. Maynard,conducted a successful surgery on Regina’s knee and subsequently gave her another chance to compete in a game she is passionate about.
At the end of the season, she was adjudged the top scorer in the women’s handball division, best female halfback and helped her team place third in the handball league. Commenting about her award, Regina said, “I deeply thank Dr. Ogyaadu for everything he has done for me, I thought my world had come to an end after my injury. He has brought joy back into my life and words cannot describe my appreciation for him, but I dedicate these awards to him”.
She was also grateful to the Head of Finance at FOCOS as well as the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation unit at FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital.
