FOCOS is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Yaw Asamoah as Chairman of its Board of Directors. Mr. Asamoah succeeds H.E. Ambassador Fritz K. Poku, who has served with distinction for the past 15 years, providing visionary leadership and dedicated stewardship to the hospital.

 

Mr. Asamoah is a distinguished banking executive with nearly 30 years of experience. He was formerly a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan Chase, the largest bank in the United States and one of the largest globally, where he spent 23 years before retiring from the firm in 2019. He has deep expertise in business strategy, capital markets and corporate finance. Mr. Asamoah has executed over 550 financings, raising $270bn of capital for high profile companies on the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, Toronto Stock Exchange and other global markets. He served on the board of Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) from 2021 to 2025 and was the bank’s previous Board Chairman.

 

Over the past decade, he has been actively involved in public service and philanthropic initiatives including serving as Chairman of the Investment Committee of Ghana’s Investment Advisory Committee (IAC), and Chairman of the Advisory Board of HACSA USA (Heritage and Cultural Society of Africa). Mr. Asamoah has been a longtime board member of FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital in Accra and was also previously Chairman of the Board of FOCOS USA, the foundation which supports the hospital’s mission.

 

As Chairman, Mr. Asamoah brings to bear a deep commitment to organizational excellence and a unique combination of strategic, financial, and governance expertise which, in partnership with the Board and management team, will further strengthen FOCOS Hospital’s ability to successfully execute its mission of providing access to world-class orthopaedic and related care to patients across Africa and beyond.

 

FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital was established in Accra in 2012 with the support of the FOCOS USA Foundation, which was founded in 1998. The hospital is the leading provider of specialized orthopaedic care in the West Africa region and is globally recognized as a center of excellence. Since its founding by Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, the hospital has treated over 118,000 patients from 75 countries and has performed more than 4,400 surgeries, including some of the most complex cases ever treated in Africa.
