FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital Commissions new children’s block
FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital has commissioned a new children’s ward and an ultra-modern classroom block at a colorful ceremony held at the hospital facility on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.
The Wayne and Claire Helyland block, named after a US-based philanthropic couple houses a 16-bed children’s ward to improve the hospital’s capacity to admit children with various orhopaedic conditions as well as an ultra-modern activity Centre to equip the children whiles on admission, so they do not lose out on classroom work.
Addressing guests at the event, the Founder, CEO & President of FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital Prof Oheneba Boachie-Adjei said, “We first had a single room for a clinic at the Trust hospital in 1998, then a 4-room house at the Watson clinic in 2004 and subsequently the FOCOS hospital complex with 50 beds in 2012; now we can boast a dedicated 16-bed children block with an adjoining activity center, which allows our hospitalized patients the opportunity to receive classroom instructions and also engage in recreational and social activities”.
Prof Boachie-Adjei expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the donors Wayne and Claire Heyland as well as other donors who have been supportive of the FOCOS vision such as: uNiBank & Duffuor Foundation, Kofi Annan Foundation, Latex Foam, Compassion International, the Ministry of Health, A & C Shopping Mall and many other donors. Finally, he announced the hospital’s vision to establish the FOCOS Institute for Capacity building, Education Training with conference facilities, as proposed projects for an extra five-acre land situated on the compound of the hospital.
Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Minister of Health, Deputy Director Administration/Legal at the Ministry of Health, Mr. Dela Semevor conveyed the Ministry’s admiration for Prof Oheneba Boachie-Adjei and the FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital’s efforts in complementing the government’s efforts in providing quality healthcare for its citizenry. “Indeed the commissioning of this newly constructed children’s block, which has been made possible by the philanthropic gesture of the Heylands signals a clear call for the need for public private partnership in the heath sector,” Mr. Kemevor said. He reassured the CEO and Management of FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital that the Ministry of Health was committed to supporting their vision to improve healthcare in Ghana.
The ceremony was graced by dignitaries like: Nana Osimkwatia II, Okuapeman Gyaasehene, Wayne and Claire Heyland, benefactors of the block ,Ambassador Fritz Poku, Board Chairman of the Foundation of Orthopaedic and complex , Mr.Clifford Duke Mettle, Executive Director of uNiBank, Mr. Dela Semevor, Deputy Director Administration/Legal at the Ministry of Health
