Ghanaian media visit FOCOS Hospital
Members of the Ghanaian media community, paid a courtesy and familiarisation visit to Focos Orthopaedic hospital on Thursday January 19. This comes as part of the 5th anniversary celebration of the hospital. The aim of their visit was to come and experience first hand what FOCOS has to offer in orthopaedic healthcare delivery.
The day began with their arrival, introduction of the management, staff and medical officers as well as the world renowned founder and CEO, Emeritus Prof Oheneba Boachie-Adjei. Then followed a brief presentation by Prof and Dr Irene Wulf, head of Anaesthesia at the hospital.
The Chief Administrative officer, Mrs Leticia Opoku and the Development Manager, Nana Kwame Osei Fordjour also took the occasion to welcome them to learn all they could about the hospital and the foundation, in order to attract well meaning individuals to come in and support the good cause of providing world class orthopaedic care to undeserved and less privileged patients, especially children.
“It is our hope to help Africa stand tall, and we are grateful for your willingness to support,” Mrs Leticia said.
In response to some questions posed by the press representatives, Dr Boachie-Adjei stressed on the need for government to consider medical tourism as a critical tool for national development. In light of this, he tasked the media to serve as the catalyst and the town criers for that to happen.
The group was made up of media men and women from: Accra fm, Citi fm, Yfm, Joy fm, Radio Gold, Starr fm, Class fm, Daily Graphic, Ghana News Agency, Daily Guide, Peace fm, Daily Express, Today newspaper, Crusading Guide and the Chronicle newspaper. The development officer at FOCOS, Ms Precious Bonsu took them around to see the different departments like Radiology, Pharmacy, Surgery, OPD, that form the units at the hospital.
“We are very pleased with what we’ve seen so far and taken aback by the level of excellence and service delivery at FOCOS Hospital,” they said. The tour ended with a photo session and refreshments for the guests.
