Spine and Scoliosis Specialist visits FOCOS
Spine and Scoliosis Specialist, Dr. Ashish Patel was at the FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital for a 10-day academic visit which ended on the 18th of April, 2018.
Dr. Patel, who is currently an attending Spine and Scoliosis Surgeon at the Methodist Hospitals, a private healthcare facility in Indiana, spoke highly of the facility during his academic visit.
“I first heard about FOCOS after my Orthopaedic residency in Brooklyn. I had read a lot of publications by Prof. Boachie because I had keen interest in spine surgery and was fortunate to meet him at the Hospital for Special Surgery, where I had my Fellowship. I got to know more about FOCOS after I attended one of their fundraising events”. He said.
Dr. Patel was impressed by the mission of FOCOS, which transformed from a mission trip a few times a year to a permanent established institution that delivered high quality care all year round. Whilst on his visit at FOCOS, he took the opportunity to exchange information and also get in-depth knowledge on how to handle complex spine deformities.
Dr. Patel completed his undergraduate degree at University of Illinois, Chicago, Illinois (UIC) where he majored in Biology. He furthered his education to become a Medical Doctor at the Ross University School of Medicine, Dominica, WI and had his residency as an Orthopaedic Surgeon at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York from 2010 to 2015. He is a Fellow in Co-Chief Administrative and Clinical Spine Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery, New York (Cornell – NYP).
He is also a member of the AO Spine Society (AOSpine), North American Spine Society (NASS), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and Brooklyn Orthopaedic Association (BOS). He also has several awards and research publications to his credit.
