I had a spine deformity which had a psychological effect on me because throughout my family, there is no one with such a condition. Visiting FOCOS was not part of the plans because looking at the level of the Hospital, I taught it was for only people with a strong financial background, the total bill given us after consultation confirmed my fears. Since we couldn’t afford the given bill, we were directed to the Patient Advocate Department to seek for support. After filling a couple of forms, my mother broke into tears and I consoled her telling not to worry and that we would not come to FOCOS ever again. Being at home for some time, we received a call from the hospital that a benevolent individual had donated funds for my surgery and this brought a great joy to myself and the entire family.
Staff at the OPD, Doctors, Nurses in the wards, the Dietician, Physiotherapists, and all that played a role in my surgery processes treated me with respect, love, and dignity during my stay, before and after surgery. I must confess that though I have visited many hospitals in the past, none of them treated me like they did in FOCOS. They made my stay in the hospital a splendid one and I say thank you to all the staff. I intermittently received calls from the hospital asking of my wellbeing after I was discharged. I really appreciate them all. Now I do things on my own, stand straight, sit and walk when and how I wish. God bless my sponsor, Prof. Boachie, the various donors of the 2018 FOCOS gala and the all the workers at FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital.
